Dr. Gabriel Wasserman is a scholar of piyyut, Jewish liturgical poetry, committed not only to the philology of working on a technical level with manuscripts and writing Hebrew commentaries on the texts, but also to bringing them off the page as dramatic prayer. As philologist, he wrote his PhD dissertation, Liturgical Poems of Ḥanukka from Europe: Critical Edition and Investigations, at Yeshiva University, and his post-doctoral work, Liturgical Poems for Wedding Sabbaths and Circumcision Sabbaths, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem; the latter work, which is the continuation of work left by the late Prof. Jonah Fraenkel at his death, was published as a book just a few weeks ago, in March 2025.
